Spencer Perceval - the murdered PM

MESSAGE:
An examination of John William Waterhouse's family tree shows that Spencer Perceval's granddaughter Frederica Mary Jane Perceval married William Waterhouse, father of JW Waterhouse, in 1860. Frederica became JW Waterhouse's step-mother: Waterhouse had been born in Rome in 1849 and had lost his mother at a young age.

Spencer Perceval  (1762-1812) is remembered today for being a British Prime Minister, and for being the only British PM to have been assassinated.  The chair in which he was murdered will be sold next month:

"Spencer Perceval staggered back and collapsed in the carved mahogany Windsor armchair upon being shot by John Bellingham, a failed merchant, in the lobby of the old House of Commons on 11 May 1812.

As he took his last breathes, Perceval gasped: "Oh, I have been murdered."

 RESPONSES:

Thanks Artmagick
It is interesting to find a connection between JW and Naploeon's Continental System. Without Naploleon's system of embargo on Continental trade with Britain the economic crisis that ended Percival's life may not have occurred. The compensation paid to Percivals family was no doubt a comfort to JWs family, as Trippi suggests in his first book.
