Waterhouse's beloved dog...
MESSAGE:
Hi all... I was just wondering if anyone knows the name of Waterhouse's dog? I have seen the pictures of him with his dog, but I have never seen his name anywhere, maybe I've missed it, or maybe nobody knows.....any info would be appreciated, thanks!!!
RESPONSES:
Hi siren ...
I don't recall seeing where the name(s) of Nino's dog(s) were given.
As you know, one of the photographs showing Waterhouse with his dog has the artist posed with his 1909 Lamia. (If someone hasn't seen the photograph here's a link ... it's the 7th one down ... then the one below that shows him in a garden with his dog).
So, this would be when the Waterhouses were living at 10 Hall Road.
Peter Trippi wrote, "Little is known of the Waterhouse's domestic arrangements [at 10 Hall Road], except that they owned dogs and were always at home to greet visitors on Saturdays." (the information about being home on Saturdays came from a Waterhouse letter Peter owns -- the letter was written to J.C. Dollman from 10 Hall Road.)
I would love to know the names of Nino's dogs!
Best wishes ....
(I tried to attach a photo here -- but, it didn't work) sorry ...
Hi Cathy, yes thank you, those were the pics i was referring to....i wonder if, upon the possible discovery of any new letters in the future, if we might find out. I'd be curious to know also if there is any name on the back of the original photographs...it would be great to know, the dog is so cute esp. in the pic with W. and 'Lamia' ...i love that photo!! :)
A good question about info on the backs ... The original of the one with Lamia is "lost" so that won't help. The one with Waterhouse in the garden is part of the John Physick collection.
Waterhouse researcher Rob Cartwright has discovered the name of Waterhouse's dog. I'm not sure if he has plans to publish his research so until then...
How long, oh Rob, how long?

Thank you for the replies! Does anyone have contact details for Mr. Cartwright, so that I might drop a polite inquiry to him to request the information, or at least to discover when he might be publishing his research? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you!
BTW - and sorry this took long, but I have to wait for things to pop up -
The dog in the portrait of Nino at his easel is a Pembroke Corgi, and could the name, or one of the names of the dogs, be Cuddy, or a variation on that word? Would someone ask Rob C? Thanks.
